Accessibility Tools & Features

Accessibility is important to us at YNAB, and we’re working hard to make updates to ensure that everyone can budget successfully. We know we still have a lot of work to do, but we also want to be sure that everyone knows about the tools and features that are currently available.

Differentiate Without Color on iOS

If you’re using an iOS device, we now support the Differentiate without Color option! If you have that setting enabled on your device, your category balances will have a different border, depending on whether they’re fully funded, underfunded, or overspent.

To enable this setting on your device (if you haven’t already), you’ll go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size, and then toggle the Differentiate Without Color option.

In the Display & Text Size Settings Menu on iOS, Differentiate Without Color is about halfway down the first screen.

Colorblind Mode

While YNAB on the web doesn't have a colorblind mode at this time, the developers of the ToolKit for YNAB extension (scroll down to the Installing section) have implemented a colorblind mode.

The Toolkit is an unofficial third-party extension, so we're not able to offer customer support on their behalf. However, it's worked well for other YNABers in the past, and if you have any questions, you can contact the developers directly.

Increase Contrast on iOS

YNAB will be affected when you choose the Increase Contrast option on your iOS device. To turn that setting on, go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size, and toggle the Increase Contrast option.

Global Font Scale Settings on Android

If you enable a larger font on your Android device, YNAB will support larger fonts up to a certain size.

To change the font size on your device, go to Settings > Accessibility > Text and Display > Font Size, and use the slider to choose the desired font size.

Screen Readers

We are continuously working to make improvements to how YNAB interacts with screen readers like VoiceOver (on Mac and iOS) and JAWS (on Windows). Some work needs to be done to make sure updates are more universally effective with all screen readers.

If you encounter a problem while using a screen reader, please reach out to us at [email protected], and we’ll be sure to get that feedback to the right team!
