Accessibility Tools & Features

Accessibility is important to us at YNAB, and we’re working hard to make updates to ensure that everyone can budget successfully. We know we still have a lot of work to do, but we also want to be sure that everyone is aware of the tools and features that are currently available.

If you encounter any barriers while using the YNAB app or website, please don't hesitate to email us at [email protected] with any feedback or suggestions. We really appreciate you bringing things to our attention!

Differentiate without Color on iOS

If you’re using an iOS device, we now support the Differentiate without Color option! If you have that setting enabled on your device, your category balances will have a different border, depending on whether they’re fully funded, underfunded, or overspent.

How to Enable the Differentiate without Color Option:

  1. On your iOS device, go to Settings.
  2. Select Accessibility.
  3. Select Display & Text Size.
  4. Toggle the Differentiate without Color option

In the Display & Text Size Settings Menu on iOS, Differentiate without Color is about halfway down the first screen.

Increase Contrast on iOS

YNAB will be affected when you choose the Increase Contrast option on your iOS device.

How to Enable Increase Contrast on iOS:

  1. To turn on that setting, go to Settings on your device.
  2. Select Accessibility
  3. Select Display & Text Size.
  4. Toggle the Increase Contrast option

Global Font Scale Settings on Android

If you enable a larger font on your Android device, YNAB will support larger fonts up to a certain size.

How to Change the Font Size on Your Android Device:

  1. Go to Settings on your device.
  2. Select Accessibility.
  3. Select Text and Display.
  4. Select Font Size.
  5. Use the slider to choose your desired font size.

Screen Readers

We are continuously working to make improvements to how YNAB interacts with screen readers like VoiceOver (on Mac and iOS) and JAWS (on Windows). Some work needs to be done to make sure updates are more universally effective with all screen readers.

If you encounter a problem while using a screen reader, please reach out to us at [email protected], and we’ll be sure to get that feedback to the right team!
